Description
The Laborer - Grounds position involves performing routine manual labor to support daily maintenance and care of all city park grounds and facilities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Complete daily maintenance of park grounds, facilities, pool, and sports fields.
- Collect trash and maintain trash tops and barrels throughout park areas.
- Clean restrooms, pavilions, and other park facilities.
- Mow park grounds and operate weed-eating equipment.
- Assist with loading and unloading vehicles with maintenance equipment.
- Clean shop and yard areas.
- Clean and maintain equipment, vehicles, and tools.
- Maintain trees, shrubs, flower beds, trails, and landscaped areas.
- Perform routine lawn and landscape tasks such as mowing, weed eating, pruning, shoveling, and trenching.
- Perform minor carpentry and construction tasks including signage and benches maintenance, concrete, plumbing and electrical repairs.
- Know and navigate locations of park grounds, facilities, and services.
- Assist with setup and support of special events such as Coulter Lights, Independence Day, parades, and tournaments.
- Assist with repair and maintenance of small engines, vehicles and trailers.
- Perform routine inspections of mowers, tractors, trucks, trailers, and other equipment.
- Identify or assist in resolving risks associated with park objects.
- Be available to work nights, weekends, holidays, and special events as scheduled.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Education and Experience
- High School Diploma or GED preferred.
- General knowledge of grounds maintenance and landscaping techniques.
- General knowledge of cleaning and facility maintenance practices.
- Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid drivers license appropriate for the equipment being operated.
- Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Ability to follow directions and complete tasks accurately.
- Skill in operating vehicles and equipment such as mowers, weed eaters, and various hand tools.
- Skill in performing general maintenance and light construction work.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Strong communication skills for interacting with coworkers, supervisors and the public.
- Knowledge of departmental policies and procedures.
- Ability to read and write, and perform necessary mathematical calculations.
- Ability to understand and follow both written and verbal instructions.
